Fashion Lee Valley Basic Sharpening Set For Carvers

For most beginner carvers, this set is all that is required for edge maintenance. It includes:

• 1000x and 4000x pocket water stones for shaping and honing, each measuring 4″ × 1”; the 3/4″ thick 1000x is for general-purpose work and the 5/8″ thick 4000x will put a mirror finish on knives, gouges, and chisels
• a 4000x traditionally shaped slip stone for gouge work; one edge is curved and decreases from 1/2″ to 1/8″ over its length while the other side is tapered at an angle of about 30° for working the inside of parting tools
• a 4″ × 5″ leather strop that can be glued to a block for stropping, shaped for use on small tools or used folded as a slip; vegetable-tanned leather about 1/8″ thick
• a 6 oz bar of Veritas Honing Compound for final honing of bevels to a mirror finish
